Jailbreaking your iPhone may now be legal. But the biggest question still remains: To unlock or to not unlock?
Reasons you SHOULD unlock your iPhone:
1. You could use your iPhone in other countries for a lot cheaper. When you jailbreak and unlock your phone, you can purchase an inexpensive pay-as-you-go SIM card in the country you are visiting. And since your phone is unlocked you can just pop in the new card and you're ready to go.
2. By jailbreaking your iPhone, you could potentially give it a second life when you move onto your next phone. By unlocking your iPhone you are able to use it simply like an iPod Touch after you are done with using it as a phone. As it stands without unlocking, the phone needs to be active to access the iPod.
3. Jailbreaking allows the user to customize the interface of the iPhone that Apple doesn't allow. You can also enable video recording, and apply themes that change the iPhone's icons and wallpaper.
4. It's really easy to do. All you have to do is visit jailbreakme.com.
Reasons you SHOULDN'T unlock your iPhone:
1. Just because the US Copyright Office has allowed an exception for jailbreaking the iPhone that does not mean that you aren't violating other rules.
2. There are over 200,000 apps that are available at your fingertips through the App Store. It doesn't seem like it would be too necessary to jailbreak it to get more.
3. Your phone is more susceptible to attacks. There is a default password that many people don't think about changing. People are able to break into your device through that avenue.
4. According to PC World, "Anecdotal evidence suggests that if you walk into an Apple Store with a misbehaving and jailbroken iPhone in the hope of getting some help with it, you'll be politely turned away."
