Businesses that use Foursquare sometimes have specials for users. Tools that Foursquare offers include Mayor Specials, Check-in Specials, Frequency-based Specials, and Wildcard Specials.
Mayor Specials:
The Mayor of the venue is the person who can unlock these choices. The Mayor is the single most loyal customer of any given business, and that is determined by choosing the person who has checked in the most in the last 60 days.
Check-in Specials:
These specials are unlocked when a user checks into a place a certain amount of times. For example, if the business wants you to visit 12 times before the special is unlocked, it will automatically inform you when you have reached the number of check-ins required.
Frequency-based specials:
This is similar to the check-in specials, but it can be set to any number. For example, if a customer checks in five times they can get something like 20 percent off.
Wildcard Specials:
These specials are always unlocked, but the businesses usually have a staff member verify something extra in order to receive the special.
