Long live Windows XP

Windows XP will never die.

Windows 7 is selling an average of seven copies per second. The number of copies sold reached over 150 million back in June. Despite those numbers, Windows XP is still the most popular OS in the world.

According to Microsoft, 74 percent of PCs in the workplace still use the nine-year-old OS. And because of that, ComputerWorld reported that Microsoft has extended XP's lifespan until at least 2020.

Although all the new computers will come with Windows 7, users still have the option to downgrade back to Windows XP for the next 10 years. After Microsoft Vista came out, it was clear that XP was still on top. In some ways, Vista failed, and because of that Windows 7 wanted to succeed. But it seems that despite the overwhelming numbers in favor of 7, it will take more the throw XP off its pedestal.

On a ComputerWorld blog it was reported that "One of the biggest complaints that XP users had with Windows Vista was its hardware incompatibilities. Older printers, scanners, network cards, and other peripherals simply didn't work with Vista. Here's the bad news: They won't work on Windows 7, either, because Windows 7 uses the same driver model as Windows Vista. So XP users will be out of luck."

Long live Windows XP.
